Happy, Happy, Happy – Cracker Barrel Does a 180 on Duck Dynasty Products

cb-crackerbarrelMy husband doesn’t believe in boycotts, phone calls, picketing, or anything else that involves trying to get a point across to the government or corporations.  He thinks that when people threaten to boycott they are just spewing words and usually fail to back it up with action. On Sunday, my husband suggested that we eat at Cracker Barrel and at first I disagreed because of the fact that they were not standing behind Duck Dynasty, but after some persuasion by my husband I decided to go so I could see, for myself, if Cracker Barrel had, in fact, pulled the Duck Dynasty merchandise associated with Phil Robertson.

When we had finished eating, I started looking for the Duck Dynasty merchandise and once I found it I was pleasantly surprised to see that Phil’s likeness was still proudly displayed.  I then went to the cashier and asked if it was true that they were planning on removing “selective” Duck Dynasty products.  The cashier told me with a look of happiness and relief that “no” their store would not be removing any Duck Dynasty products.  I told her I was “very happy” to hear that and left with my newly purchased Duck Commander merchandise.

At first I thought maybe it was just my Cracker Barrel that had chosen not to remove the selective merchandise, but once I got home and got on the Internet I was greeted with this statement from Cracker Barrel on my Facebook page.

Dear Cracker Barrel Customer:

When we made the decision to remove and evaluate certain Duck Dynasty items, we offended many of our loyal customers. Our intent was to avoid offending, but that’s just what we’ve done.

You told us we made a mistake. And, you weren’t shy about it. You wrote, you called and you took to social media to express your thoughts and feelings. You flat out told us we were wrong.

We listened.

Today, we are putting all our Duck Dynasty products back in our stores.

And, we apologize for offending you.

We respect all individuals right to express their beliefs. We certainly did not mean to have anyone think different.

We sincerely hope you will continue to be part of our Cracker Barrel family.

This statement was a far cry from the previous statement that had been issued only two days prior where they said:

Cracker Barrel’s mission is Pleasing People. We operate within the ideals of fairness, mutual respect and equal treatment of all people. These ideals are the core of our corporate culture.

We continue to offer Duck Commander products in our stores.

We removed selected products which we were concerned might offend some of our guests while we evaluate the situation.

We continually evaluate the products we offer and will continue to do so.

I almost couldn’t believe that Cracker Barrel had changed their minds so quickly.  It had worked – our voices were heard!

Even my non-believing husband started to believe that, maybe, the voices of the once silent majority might actually be heard again.

However, we can’t stop here – we must continue on.  We must use this one small victory to propel the silent majority to more victories.  If all the citizens of this great country who value God, family, freedom, and country come together and fight for the country we hold dear – maybe we can actually win back the country that we have let fall into the hands of people who have fundamentally transformed it in less time than any of us thought possible.

A & E, in their effort to silent the vocal Christianity of one man, have ignited the hearts and minds of millions of Americans bringing them out of an apathetic coma.

This must be our rallying cry – fight for our rights, fight for our freedom, and fight for our country – because together we can win back our country.
