Obama’s Signature Act of Legislation, Doomed to Failure…Just Like His Presidency

obamacare-glitches-cartoon-sack-495x374Democrats, media pundits, Republicans, and even Obama himself, have all acknowledged that the Affordable Care Act was President Obama’s signature act. It was to be the one piece of legislation that would define his presidency and all that he did for the people of this great country. Now, many on the Left are scrambling to make sense of the train wreck that has become Obamacare.

It seems all the rushing around and acting like chickens with their heads cut off is really not necessary. Why are Democrats at all surprised by the abject failure of a plan that not one of them bothered to read before voting its passage? The House Majority Leader at the time of passage was Nancy Pelosi, and no one can or should forget her ominous warning, “We have to pass the bill to find out what’s in the bill.” She said the reading of the bill had to be done “away from the fog of controversy” surrounding it. I suspect it was not fog as much as it was smoke, Madam Pelosi, and where there is smoke…there is fire.

Worth noting is that President Obama made statement after statement about how transparent his administration would be compared to previous presidents. He even promised that all debates surrounding the healthcare law would be televised on C-Span so that Americans would not wonder what was being offered behind closed doors. He and his spokesperson had no comment when, after being elected, this promise was broken.

We can also recall then-candidate Obama as he proclaimed his intentions to be the most bipartisan president ever elected. Turning back to his signature piece of legislation we can see that he managed to break this promise within months of his election. Day after day, Republicans were shut out of closed-door meetings between Democratic Party leaders Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. They were told to sit down and be quiet, because the Democrats had super majorities and did not need a single Republican vote to pass any bill they wished to pass. Again, this supports why the ACA is now a law without a single GOP signature affirming its passage.

Lest the reader believe this is solely an attack piece on the Affordable Care Act, let me clarify that this is an attack on the entire presidency of Barack Hussein Obama. His “signature piece of legislation” is working no better and only slightly worse than all his other offerings as Commander-in-Chief. To show the examples of how much worse off American is after 5 years under Obama let’s take a look at the following:

Now before you make a decision on what grade Obama and his administration deserves, look at this:

Yes, the failure of Obama’s signature legislation does mean something. It demonstrates that the one and only act he felt important enough to stake his legacy on is a failure and all the other issues are kindling, burning at the bottom of this massive bonfire better known as Obamacare. The smoke signals are not new; the ashes have been smoldering since the beginning of the debates on healthcare and unfortunately, the people of America were not well versed in how to read smoke signals. More accustomed to having it fed to them via a teleprompter puppet, Americans sat back and comfortably watched as President Obama did his signature best to impart his worst act on our country.

Many of you have likely been insured most of your lives and are keenly aware of the problems many plans incur. Billing mistakes, benefit oversights, denial of claims, etc. are all common problems in insurance agencies that have been in business for decades. Yet, I never had a problem signing up for a plan and it was normally the smoothest part of the process I encountered. This should give millions of Americans pause as you watch in stunned disbelief at the disastrous enrollment process of Obamacare. If they cannot get the simplest part of health insurance correct, what hope is there that the benefits, billing, and acceptance of claims will go any better?

The failure of Obamacare will be the hallmark of President Obama’s two terms as President of the United States, but it will not be all he is remembered for failing to accomplish. He will also be remembered for failing to close Gitmo; failing to stop the supply of guns and grenades being delivered to Mexican drug lords (which his administration provided); failing to stop/prevent the murder of the first US Ambassador since 1979; failing to cut the deficit and instead adding more debt to the US deficit than all of the previous Presidents from Washington to Bush combined (and in one term); having the first credit downgrade in US history, and many, many other notable negative actions.

Americans had better think long and hard before they step into the ballet booths in 2014 and again in 2016. Are you or our nation better off today than you/we were 5 years ago? Has Obama kept his promise to make your life better? Obama was the president who blamed Bush for everything.  But remember that while Bush was the President who vowed to fundamentally transform two countries–Iraq and Afghanistan—Obama was the man who vowed to fundamentally transform our own country, America!  Let that sink in before you pull the lever and finalize your upcoming votes.
