Obama’s Phony Shutdown

government-shutdown-memes-17In August, President Obama berated the press and anyone who dared to question him and his Party about the loss of four American citizens in Benghazi; the IRS targeting of conservative groups; NSA surveillance of ordinary citizens, and the seizure of reporters’ phone records by the Justice Department.  Obama called all those incidents “phony scandals.”

Unfortunately (for him), most of America does not agree with him. According to FOX News, “In each of the four situations, voters across the partisan spectrum – Republicans, independents and Democrats – are more likely to say the situation should be taken seriously.” These are serious situations that call into question our basic freedoms and the safety of our men and women who serve overseas in often-hostile situations. They deserve careful investigation and are anything but phony scandals.

What we have been experiencing for over two weeks, however, is a phony shutdown. Our ruler and his minions do not want to listen to the voice of The People, expressed in the words and actions of the House of Representatives. Congress–both houses of Congress–must do our leader’s will or The People will suffer. It doesn’t matter if The People have turned against Obamacare and want it defunded or repealed. According to the president (and Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid), “We will fund Obamacare, or we will fund nothing.” Supporters of President Obama even dare to call it the “Tea Party Shutdown,” ignoring the fact that he and his cronies in the Senate have refused to pass bills to keep critical parts of the government running. Yes, it is a piecemeal approach, but the House of Representatives have passed numerous bills in the last two weeks to fund important governmental functions, almost all of which the Senate has rejected and the President has threatened to veto.

How do we know that this is a phony shutdown? Well, for one thing, the government is shutting things down that cost nothing or very little to stay open.  For example, memorials in DC are outside, open-air facilities that people can visit without the need for a large staff. Yet, these are closed and the government is spending money to barricade (aka “Barrycade”) them and post guards to keep people out. When the veterans and their supporters removed the Barrycades last weekend, our federal government had no problem finding plenty of staff to replace them. Also, President Obama has closed or attempted to close over 100 parks that are either state-run or that receive no or minimal federal funding to remain open—and the list goes on and on.

What is even more telling about this phony shutdown is what has remained open:

Mrs. Obama’s website has remained up–while the Amber Alert website was taken down (although it has since been restored because of negative press, according to CNN—but of course this was all just for show, too, because the actual system was never affected, only the informational website.)

The entire USDA website has been turned off “in response to the government shutdown, leaving farmers, reporters and others with no way to access any of the agency’s information online.” Yet the White House (aka “Spite House”) website and the (disastrous) Obamacare website have remained functional.

The White House still has fifteen of its ninety staff members, ensuring that the first family will not have to cook, clean or even walk the dog, while military members and veterans have to do without their commissaries. Sadly, though, the White House kitchen garden has been allowed to rot. (I guess the “Let’s Move” initiative doesn’t include picking their own vegetables…) Apparently, the White House kitchen garden is phony, too, because there are clearly plenty of volunteers willing to pick those veggies and share them with those in need, but, hey, we have a statement to make here! And this statement is more important than the one we were making by having the garden in the first place…

We have a phony shutdown so that President Obama and the Democrats can prove that they are in control and can do pretty much whatever they want, and also because Government seems to fear what would happen with a real shutdown. This weekend’s EBT card glitch gave us a hint of what it would look like if the government stopped handing out goodies to the masses.

Bottom line, this shutdown is phony.  Only 17 percent of the government is shuttered; Congress and President Obama are still getting paid, many staffers are still coming into work, and the main people who are suffering are the ones who pay taxes to support all the largess our government chooses to hand out. The only reason for this “shutdown” is to try to make those who oppose Obama and the Democrats suffer as much as possible. As one angry Park Service ranger stated, “It’s a cheap way to deal with the situation…. We’ve been told to make life a difficult for people as we can. It’s disgusting.”

You are right, sir, it is disgusting. And it is phony, and it is being orchestrated by a phony president and his phony Senate leadership. Phony scandals indeed! You, sirs (and madams), in DC are the phonies and, sadly for all of America, you are scandalous as well.
