Eating Their Own

Republicans-eating-their-own“There is danger from all men. The only maxim of a free government ought to be to trust no man living with the power to endanger the public liberty.” – John Adams

It’s no news that in politics there is a lot of back stabbing, back room deals and pandering, and when it comes to eating their own, the Republican Party has made the practice into an art form. The Republican Party has been “eating their own” for years now.    It doesn’t seem to matter how good a particular candidate is, if he or she has ideas of true conservatism and a love and respect for the Constitution, that person has been subject to derailment by the powers-that-be.

The establishment crowd have poured millions of dollars into campaigns and to train candidates who have been “severely” conservative in their rhetoric but not in their actions. They have a historic lack of supporting true Conservative individuals and they couldn’t care less about a Constitutional Conservative government. Let’s look at just a few cases in point:

Sharron Angle wanted to personalize Social Security and abolish the Department of Education; she had been an anti-tax, pro smaller government social conservative consistently throughout her tenure in the Nevada State Assembly which painted her as ‘radical’ by the GOP establishment.  At the time when she won the Republican primary, people were frustrated with Washington, and sick of establishment candidates- especially Harry Reid, whom Angle was going up against. Nevada was one of the hardest hit states with the jobless rate at 13.7 percent with record foreclosures.  Reid’s poll numbers were at the lowest point ever at approval rating of 39%, with 49% of voters disapproving. Out of 39 polls taken between December 2009 and October 2010, Angle had a lead in 26 of them compared to Reid’s 13.

Republican mayor of Reno, Bob Cashell, called her an “ultra right-winger” who was “just too far to the right for me.” He backed Reid.  Sig Rogich, a Nevada Republican and GOP strategist at the time said, “I could never support somebody who espouses the radical positions that Angle does” and started a group called “Republicans for Reid”.  Republican State Senator and Minority Leader William Raggio also endorsed Reid.

That election night I saw every time a Nevada county was tallied, and Angle was winning. She finally lost out to Reid near the end with 44.55 % and Reid taking 50.29 %.  We’ll never know how many votes she could have gained had people from her own party backed her instead of tossing her under the bus for one of the most far-Left liberals in the Senate.

Sarah Palin, who was picked for McCain’s VP choice, was mocked mercilessly by the left, and it’s well known that she was “muzzled” by GOP handlers from speaking about such things as Rev. Jeremiah Wright and the financial collapse which stemmed from the housing crisis, which back in the 90s; Republicans were the voices calling for tougher regulations of Fanny and Freddie.  Not only that but that Obama was the number 2 recipient of PAC money from Fannie/Freddie who was run by Clinton cronies Franklin Raines and James Johnson.

After the election, the true feelings about her by establishment republicans came out.  Even now the GOP has little use for her. Political strategist Steve Schmidt recently said, he has “deep regret” about creating the freak show that’s been running wild for four years” in the Republican Party.  In an article by the Washington Examiner, Schmidt added, “For the last couple of years, we’ve had this wing of the party running roughshod over the rest of the party… Tossing out terms like RINO, saying we’re going to purge, you know, the moderates out of the party…”

Allen West was an extremely popular Congressman not only for Conservative Floridians, but for conservatives throughout the US. Back in January 2012, Will Weatherford, the GOP’s state House redistricting chairman did nothing as West’s congressional district lines were re-drawn.  The Governor at the time, Charlie Crist endorsed West only four days prior to the general election, and Florida Republican Party Boss Jim Greer wrote West a $500 personal check only several weeks before the general election.  GOP elites in Florida and in Washington had no use for a freshman “upstart” like Allen West who was a Conservative star among the people who were and are sick of the GOP establishment, and he refused to toe the party line.  After the redistricting, West’s new district fight was against the very well-funded Democrat Patrick Murphy.  Although West’s campaign raised a near record monetary amount, virtually none of it came from the RNC.

Now let’s look at just some of the situations we have faced in the past 4 years as the Obama administration has run roughshod over the Constitution and committed seriously questionable actions, most of which have drawn nothing much other than soft rebukes from Speaker John Boehner and other senior Republicans.

Since Obama’s first term in office we have seen:  The firing of National and Community Service Inspector General Gerald Walpin in 2009  and Obama going around Congress by deciding which laws to enforce, including the decision not to deport illegal immigrants and going to the UN and the International Community when considering military actions instead of going to Congress first.

We saw “Green or Alternative energy” companies such as Solyndra  receive government loans before going bankrupt leaving taxpayers to pay the bills. There were similar losses from the bailout of General Motors while unions and the government took a major position in the company’s ownership.

Does anyone remember when Obama’s former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel used Bill Clinton as an intermediary to explore whether Joe Sestak (D-Pa.) would accept a prominent, unpaid White House advisory position in exchange for dropping out of the 2010 primary against former Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.)?

There was also The Pigford scandal, Veterans Affairs spending $6 million on two conferences at Disney World, GSA spending $823,000 in Vegas, AG Eric Holder’s Perjury claiming before congress about not knowing about Fast and Furious and the other case of perjury about not been associated with “potential prosecution” of a journalist for perjury when in fact he signed the affidavit that termed FOX News’ James Rosen a potential criminal.

And then there is Benghazi. And we have yet to have a Select Committee formed to investigate the attack at the US mission in Benghazi, Libya which left Ambassador Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, and former US Navy SEALS Tyrone Woods and Glenn Doherty dead with no help from the Obama Administration, because in John Boehner’s opinion, we don’t have the money or time for the truth.

Except for a handful of Conservatives, Louie Gohmert, Trey Gowdy, Frank Wolf, Jason Chaffetz and Darrell Issa, among the few, our representatives would bother to find the truth.

While all of these incidents have been going on, what have some of our esteemed Republicans been doing? First our 2nd Amendment rights were and still are under attack, with the usual senior Republicans siding with democrats when they were trying to pass new restrictions.  They have also been focusing on so called Immigration reform and they don’t care that most Conservatives are completely against any so called reform because it will lead to amnesty provisions with no immediate attention on Border Security. It also doesn’t seem to phase them that the Immigration laws and system this country has in place works just fine, that it’s not broken- it is ignored.

They haven’t done a thing about what they all campaigned on- the repeal of the monstrosity that is Obamacare. And when Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and a couple of others stood on the Senate floor for over 20 hours, they received condemnation from fellow Republicans!

I can’t say enough, how much I love this country because I know what it means to live somewhere else. I know what it’s like to work towards coming here to live, and I hold dear the Republic- but too many of our politicians do not, and are willing to let it go. Too many people are not willing to keep it.  I’ve only lived a little less than half of my life here, but I want my country back. I don’t want it transformed. I want America to stay what America has always been- the greatest Constitutional Republic on the planet.  That won’t happen however if the GOP continues to manipulate to get those whom they prefer into the top spots, and continue to mock us and rip apart those few who really do represent us.
