Mainstream Music with Morals: An Interview with Ava Aston

Ava AstonToday I’m interviewing a great friend, co-PolitiChick and recording artist, Miss Ava Aston. I’m going to jump right in and ask you how you got into singing and song writing.

Ava Aston:  I’ve been singing since I started talking really. I was like a little Tina Turner with the hairbrush in the mirror giving concerts in my bedroom. I don’t play an instrument, my voice is my instrument.  As I was growing up I started to hear melodies in my head and so I started writing them down the only way I knew how, the words in notebooks.  I have a video on my youtube channel that explains how I write.  The simple explanation is, I hear the music in my head, and write it down on paper, then sing it to whomever I’m collaborating with and they play the chords I’m singing.

LW:  You are so different from the mainstream female artists, it’s so refreshing! Tell us what you think about Pop Culture today and it’s influence on society.

AA: How long is this interview? (laughs) I talk a lot about what is going on today in my weekly blog.  Well to put it bluntly I think Pop Culture and entertainment are totally out of control.  It’s like everything is backwards.  Up is down, down is up, bad is good and good is considered bad.  It’s almost as if the more shocking and controversial you can be the better. Which I get it, sex sells. But check me if I’m wrong, you can be pretty and yes even sexy if you want to and still keep your dang clothes ON! ;D I think we’re living in the “Now” generation. The powers that be are pushing the idea that everything should be fair, and that hard work should not be rewarded.  That you can have whatever you want “instantly”.  I think there is far too much reality TV; which devalues what it is to be a real artist.  The idea that anyone can show up on a reality TV show with a sad shocking story, then be on tour with a #1 single or record 6 months later is ridiculous.  That’s like me deciding I’m going to “try” being your dentist next week and attempting to do your filling without any practice or training… Because the “Dentist Experts” are going to set it all up, line it up, and teach me real quick so I can do it on national TV for entertainment value a show.  That’s the problem these days… everything is for show.  I’m also not sure why or when it became cool for guys or girls to go on stage in their undies.  Second, I think we have far too much Beiber & Beyonce and not enough Henry Ford’s and Dr. Ben Carson’s in the world.

LW:  What about this Veewall contest you’re in? Tell us about the contest.

AA:  Veewall is a Voting Based Original Song Contest.  There are No Judges – it is Votes only! It runs January 14 through April 29th.  The artist with the Most Votes Wins $100,000. They tweeted to me back in the fall.  Originally I blew it off as I do not usually participate in voting contests.  I just don’t see the point in comparing yourself to others.  As in art there is no finite answer. No right or wrong. It’s art, like ice cream flavors. Some like chocolate, some vanilla… it’s personal preference.

However being an Independent Recording Artist without the luxury of a backer, sponsor, management or a label pushing my music… I thought it was an amazing opportunity to possibly win the $100,000 and use it to not only create some new material, but to have the means to properly promote it (which is what is the bulk cost is in doing a project these days).  To hire a publicist, do all the google, yahoo & facebook advertising. As well as set up a tour and do a lot more videos.

So I decided to try to rally up everyone who enjoys my music and message and see if we can win it!

LW:  Why is so important that you win this contest?

AA:  Making the music is not the only thing that takes resources; it is also putting it out to the masses.  There is no way an independent artist such as myself can possibly compete with the resources of a Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry, Rihanna or any of the other artists who are on labels.

Pop Culture is a wreck, we see it all around us.  In order to change what is going on, we need to get people who actually have some decent morals and values into pop culture via music, film, tv all of it. I aspire to be among other things a positive role model for people of all ages.  Not only because of my conservative Christian values, but also with my positive outlook, and healthy lifestyle. I have overcome a lot in my life, I was heavy as a child and I know what it is like to struggle.  I desire to be able to help people see the potential they have on the inside that life can sometimes beat down.  Through my music and message to help them reach their own personal goals.  In order to do any of that, people need to know about my art.  The music, the cartoon, the parodies for politichicks, the blog, all of it.  That takes money.  Winning the contest is a golden opportunity to be able to do all of it – and to be able to make a difference.

However, sometimes when conservatives try to rally one another together for a cause – there are those who tear down or avoid supporting others.  They turn their noses up in disapproval and suggest anyone on our side trying to achieve their goals and dreams doesn’t need our help.  They don’t matter.  What matters is “my own” selfish goal and dream. That person who wants to be a positive role-model or a strong influence in society who has values in line with mine, doesn’t need “my support” because if they are to make it – they should do it on their own – and not have to ask for help.

So, instead we are left with more of the same.  We have a continuing cancerous growth in our society, which enables the agenda of the left to succeed and destroy the fabric of our society.  This is reaping we get from the seeds we don’t sow of our own.  Instead of supporting our own and moving our agenda forward by collectively having one voice and one goal, we sit idly by as the Jay Zee’s and Biebers, Ga Ga’s, Kety Perry’s and Niki Minaj’s of the entertainment industry who all suscribe to the same ideology as Obama continue to drive our society into the Gutter.

For once, I just wish people who say they believe in America, who value our founding and support the constitution would collectively join together in helping our conservative compares get ahead. Because when one of us achieves their goal – it is good for all of us – and for society. It opens the door for more of us with “our ideology” to succeed in the mainstream.

Putting our ideology and values in the mainstream is what will allow us to control the narrative; which will in turn will ultimately influence elections.  So if we as conservatives do not like what we see out there today, then we need to “Change the Channel”.

Winning the $100,000 in the Veewall Vocals Contest, will enable me the chance to for once in my life to be able to put my music and message out to the masses.  To be evaluated for my art, message and talent. Not for anything superficial like age, or any of the other irrelevant things the music and entertainment industry likes to focus on.
