Wolves VS. Sheep (And The Out-of-Control “People Control” Police)

wolf and sheepIn a recent powerful speech, former Secret Service Agent Dan Bongino, boldly proclaimed, “In a society of wolves, you DO NOT fight back by creating more sheep!”

You and I only need to watch five minutes of the news these days to see that our world is becoming a much scarier and crazier place to live. The wolves are out devouring their prey at rampant speed: theft, robberies, riots, rapes, murders, mass shootings, and drug-related crimes are now so common, that a vulnerable human mind can easily become desensitized to them. The LAST thing our nation needs is for law-abiding citizens to be left defenseless against these dangerous predators— including the ones who hold high offices.

In fact, as Bongino even explained in his speech, “There’s no such thing as gun control, only people control.”

We can already see that the latest assault on our Second Amendment has little to do with keeping Americans “safe,” and everything to do with certain political gangs exploiting a crisis in order to rob the liberties of law-abiding citizens.

Yet, I firmly believe that if we become enslaved to their “whims,” it’s because we ourselves have allowed it to happen.

Ronald Reagan once so eloquently stated:

“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”

So, will our generation “rise to the occasion” and assume the responsibility required to preserve the precious freedoms that have been endowed to us? As Bongino mentioned, are we willing to:

  • Pay attention to what is happening around us?
  • Get educated (on our history, the Constitution, our Founders, policies, etc.)?
  • Get out and vote?
  • Stand firmly in our convictions?
  • Get engaged in the political process?

Otherwise, we are a huge part of the problem.

While complacency (of my neighbor) has been a source of great frustration to me lately, I have to remember that it wasn’t that long ago that I had my own head buried in the sand. I chose complacency simply because it was easier to come home, “kick back,” and watch “The Bachelor” and “Honey Boo Boo” than to pay attention to the world around me. I didn’t want to know about the national debt (and how it impacted my own family), the assaults on our freedoms, and the boring policy-making processes in Washington D.C.  I always assumed that our lawmakers were much smarter than me, anyway.

It was much easier to escape to my sitcoms and my chick flicks than to educate myself on things that really mattered. It was much easier for me to just accept whatever junk the boob-tube media fed to me, rather than challenging it. Quite frankly, I didn’t want to know the truth, because it wasn’t convenient for me. If I knew the truth, that meant that I would have to actually do something about it, and I didn’t want to be bothered.

I chose to be a sheep. Therefore, I know that I, too, was once guilty of empowering the “people control” police.

Now that I am finally awake, I’m at least trying to make up for my intellectual laziness. I have been reading up on my history, our Founding Fathers, and the Constitution. I’ve also been paying close attention to current events, and to all the shenanigans that are going on in Washington, D.C. The good news is that… if there is hope for me, there is hope anyone!

In fact, with all the gun control measures ambitious lawmakers have proposed in recent weeks, there’s actually been a ray of hope–more Americans are starting to wake up and see the cold reality that their liberty is seriously hanging by a thread. According to a recent USA TODAY article:

“Americans are out of sorts, and increasingly they’re unhappy with the government. According to a Pew poll released last week, more than half of Americans view government as a threat to their freedom.”

“And it’s not just Republicans unhappy with Obama, or gun owners afraid that the government will take their guns: 38% of Democrats, and 45% of non-gun owners, see the government as a threat.”

However, the article explains, “[I]f there’s an upside to the increasing unhappiness that most Americans feel toward the political class, it’s that maybe it means people are paying closer attention.”  Yay!

Unfortunately, the Second Amendment is only the beginning of the madness. The “people control” police have found plenty of other creative ways to rob personal choices from our daily lives. Obamacare is certainly one of them. Can you just imagine what our Founding Fathers would think about a healthcare law that was shoved down our throats by way of backroom deals and “Cornhusker kickbacks”? Can you imagine what they would think about a health care law that:

  1. Forces citizens to purchase a product, simply for existing?
  2. Includes “Death Panels” to determine whether our senior citizens are cost-effective enough to live or die?
  3. Mandates Christian business owners (i.e. Hobby Lobby) to provide for the killing of unborn children (through chemical abortions) against their own conscience?
  4. Forces doctors to data-mine patient information for the federal government?
  5. Threatens grocery stores with jail time over food labels?
  6. A 2,300-page law written so ambiguously that it unleashes another 10,000 plus pages of additional regulations on Americans?

Contrary to what we were promised in all the healthcare debates, we can already see that Obamacare creates more “people control,” not “more affordable healthcare”. Now that the federal government has the power to “tax” an individual for not carrying health insurance, who is to say they won’t “tax” them for not purchasing a gym membership, or for not eating all their broccoli, or for drinking too much soda? Where will this intrusion of privacy end? Obamacare isn’t “affordable healthcare”– it is tyranny in the making.

Unfortunately,  the “people control” police haven’t stopped at the Second Amendment or Obamacare. We can see how The Pursuit of Happiness is also being strangled beneath the thousands and thousands of pages of oppressive regulations and ridiculous mandates.

In fact, the Spectator recently wrote about the frustrations farmers and ranchers were having with all smothering EPA mandates:

“Farmers, ranchers, and foresters “are increasingly frustrated and bewildered by vague, overreaching, and unnecessarily burdensome EPA regulations…..They “are facing at least a dozen new regulatory requirements, each of which will add to their costs, making it harder for them to compete.… [M]ost if not all of these regulations rely on dubious rationales.”

Needless to say, all the burdensome regulations are making it more difficult for farmers to produce their crops, much less bring them to market.

Many other businesses are also suffering under all the new government regulations. According to a report by the American Action Forum, headed by former Congressional Budget Office Director Douglas Holtz-Eakin:

“The direct costs of the regulations force American businesses to waste 87 million man-hours to fill out regulatory paperwork. Adding Obama’s 2012 regulatory costs to that of the rest of his first term adds up to a total of $518 billion in new costs forced onto an already anemic economic recovery.”

Even medical professionals are getting slammed with additional hours of paperwork by way of oppressive government mandates. According to the Competitive Enterprise Institute,“Last week, medical professionals got $193,037,104 worth of new paperwork dropped on their heads by the Centers for Medicaid and Medicaid Services.”

In fact, they note that “2013’s pace of new regulation means a fresh rule to follow is minted every 2 hours and 46 minutes. (So pay attention or you’ll get behind!)”

In a recent Townhall column, John Ransom wrote, “I wish Obama and the Democrats could be as passionate about jobs as they are about, say, the contents of Happy Meals. Or the dust from cement factories. Or the habitat of the red-cockaded woodpecker.”

No kidding.

If all the regulations aren’t already not enough, the federal government is now reportedly using drones to spy on Americans. According to American Vision News, “Midwest farmers were outraged to hear that Lisa Jackson and the EPA were spying on ranches in surveillance planes. Rep. Tom Latham sent a letter to the EPA demanding answers on this controversial practice.  In his letter Lathan argued, “No federal agency has the right to treat the American farmer like the Taliban.’”

And, when the “people control” police aren’t trying to spy on us, or control us through burdensome regulations and unjust legislation, they are “muzzling” us through “political correctness”. Lastly and most importantly, many Americans don’t realize how the Political Class is controlling them by way of their pocketbooks. In 2012, Maryland resident Alice Scanlon decided she was going to keep track of just how much money she and her husband were paying in hidden taxes every year. Scanlon said, “I just started looking through all of our receipts and tax filings from the past year and made columns for each.” This middle class Maryland resident notes that she had to expand her list a number of times due to the hidden taxes she kept discovering.

Scanlon also explained:

The average entry features a relatively small amount, sometimes only pennies, but it is all there.  Gas taxes, state and federal taxes, special Maryland alcohol tax, cell phone taxes and ‘Bay Restoration Fees,’ road tolls, mandatory union dues, and on and on…There is a much bigger picture than most taxpayers know…Once you add them up it is sickening how much you are really paying and the levels of bureaucracy is borderline dysfunctional.”

While a penny tax here and a dime tax there doesn’t seem like that much, pennies and dimes quickly add up to dollar amounts.

Some taxes are necessary, I agree. But, when our tax dollars are mostly going to pay for bureaucrats who tell us what to do, what to eat, how much we should weigh, and so on, our taxpayer money is funding the total loss of our own freedom. At what point are our tax dollars going toward a bloated bureaucracy that simply treats us like sheep?

So, what is the answer to all this?  It’s to keep doing exactly what Secret Service Agent Dan Bongino said to do in his speech: keep paying attention to what is happening, keep educating ourselves (and others), keep getting out to vote, keep standing firmly in our convictions, and keep staying engaged in the political process. The wolves will do everything in their power wear us down and to discourage us into giving up our own power.

So, let’s stay alert and keep being the watchdogs. We will be surprised at how many sheep will soon wake up and start joining us. After all, if it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone!
