Individual Rights: What Did Our Founders Mean?
Many people, mostly on the left, are claiming that the 2nd Amendment doesn’t say anything about “individual rights”. Considering the fact that the Bill of Rights was written during a time when it was a non-issue to own guns (which everyone did), I’m quite certain we can assume they meant for the 2nd Amendment to be an individual right as well. Why would they write something that would potentially cause them to lose their own personal rights to own guns? Knowing the history of gun ownership back then, I believe it’s safe to conclude that the 2nd Amendment encompasses our individual rights as well. Anything else simply wouldn’t make sense.
Another claim we keep hearing from the left is that “assault” weapons are bad and need to be banned. For the millionth time, there is no such thing as an assault weapon—only people can assault something. In the eyes of a psychopath, a gun is a gun is a gun! When criminals are on a mission to kill, they are going to get any type of gun they want whether legally or through the black market because this is what criminals do!
Once we have given the government the leeway to infringe upon our rights—any of them– it will only become a snowball effect from there. If we think it’s okay to allow them to take “some” of our rights, it will only open the door to more. These are dangerous times because there are people in our government–right now—whose ultimate goal is to take away all our guns (other than the military, police force and, of course, the guards protecting the government…) It will never end for these people and our Constitutional right to defend and protect our families and ourselves will be trampled if we allow it. Give an inch, and they will take a mile.
Each and every amendment in the Bill of Rights is important, but protecting the Second Amendment is the most crucial because it guarantees that the others will not be taken away. Remember–once the right to own firearms is eliminated, eliminating all other rights (such as the Freedom of Speech) will be a piece of cake. If that happens, what are we going to do? Protest? We certainly won’t be able to resist. Just like Germany, China and other people enslaved by a tyrannical governments, all we’ll be able to do is watch it happen. The Second Amendment is our insurance policy against that–so let’s make sure we protect it.
