Stop the Generational Theft!

The time has come for all of us to take a stand for our children’s future.  Things have reached critical mass and it’s now or never to turn the ship around and give them a bright tomorrow.

Our children and grandchildren deserve to have the America that we had, not some European, socialist welfare state that is coming our way like a runaway train.  They deserve to have the opportunity and advantages that we all had and if we don’t act quickly, that will never happen.

How many of us remember the joy of starting out on the parenting journey with high hopes of success for our children?  I’m sure even those of you who don’t have children of your own probably have a close connection with a niece, nephew, younger sister, brother, or close friend’s child.

When we brought that baby home there wasn’t anything that we wouldn’t do for him/her.  I remember making sure that my daughter had the best things that I could afford.  I researched pediatricians way before she was born to make sure that she would have the best medical care I could find.  Living in Southern California, pre-schools and education were a big issue.  I put her name on waiting lists for the faith-based pre-schools that filled up three years in advance.  My husband and I even moved out of our home in the San Fernando Valley and relocated thirty miles away so that our children would be able to attend public school in a good district. Every parent I knew wanted the same things that I did.  They gave their children every opportunity, every advantage, every benefit they could find to ensure that their children had every chance for success.

How many nights did you sit up helping with homework, making flashcards and asking mock questions for the following day’s exam?  We were all helping our children reach their goal of perhaps going to college if they wanted to and grades were all important.

Yes, we care deeply for our children, so my question is, why are we letting our government and especially this current administration, take their future away from them?  We need to be as protective now as we were when they were growing up.  We need to stop this massive debt burden that is being placed on them and on generations of children yet to be born.

As of now we have a $16 trillion dollar debt.  In four more years that number will be over $20 trillion! We are indebted to China and pretty soon they will stop buying our debt.  The Fed is out of control and continues to print bogus, counterfeit money that will only lead us to massive inflation.  According to a recent Rasmussen poll only 23% of people think that their children will be better off than they are!  That is astonishing!

Young adults today are waking up to the cold reality that they won’t have the opportunities that they were promised.  Many of them spent years in college and are now saddled with student loan debt that is overpowering and they are finding that with degree in hand, they can’t find a job.  The unemployment rate for youth between the ages of 16-24 has now risen to 17%.  Twenty-somethings are now moving back in with their parents because they can’t afford to start their lives and raise families of their own.

They already know that social security and Medicare will not be there for them.  The systems are bankrupt.  We, their parents will be the last to benefit from those programs unless something is done.  These kids are looking at sky-high taxes and a lower standard of living in their future.  Like a hamster on a treadmill they will be running faster and faster and getting nowhere.

If Obama is re-elected this fall we can also kiss our kid’s inheritance goodbye.  The money that we parents earned and paid tax on and put away for our future and our kids will be taxed once again when we die.  That amount will jump up to 55% on a $1 million dollar estate!  This may not affect everyone, but if you take into consideration your home, insurance, cars and other assets, it affects more of us than you might think.  Once again our kids and grandkids are being robbed.

This has got to stop.  It has to stop now.  We cannot in good conscience let Washington abuse our children and grandchildren.  They deserve a great life, in a great country.  They deserve the right to make of their lives whatever they desire.  They need to know that if they work hard and become accomplished they can reap rewards for their efforts and not just hand them over to the government. They don’t need to be burdened by debts that they didn’t even incur!  They need to know that their country is strong and powerful and their leaders are rooting for them to be the next generation of “the best and the brightest in the world”.

Let’s be the parents and grandparents that we once were.  Let’s make a drastic change in the way America has been run over the past few years.  We have to do it; there is no other choice.  It is not for us anymore, it is for the future generations.
